Lucid Motors have been making serious strides lately: just a few weeks after their Phoenix factory began construction, the startup has revealed that their first beta engineering prototype of their Air sedan has hit the road.

This particular prototype is so significant because it actually represents 95% of the production vehicle, which is currently set to go on sale late next year. You can now even put down a fully refundable $1,000 deposit if you feel so inclined…

Much of Lucid’s progress wouldn’t be made possible if it weren’t for Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund – which invested $1 billion into the California-based company last year. The same fund also bankrolls Uber, and with such immense resources currently at their disposal you would feel they’ll meet their late 2020 production goal. Do you think the Air will be a worthy Model S and Taycan rival? Feel free to let us know your thoughts on the Air and Lucid in general in the replies section below!
